Bandicoot, Rivergang, Jonah's and Ozzie, I had Cowling and Bromwich as either CO or DO at different times, so yes Ozzie, maybe we crossed paths a long time ago in a galaxy far away. 🤔

Who told the first lie?
by nicolaou inthis is a continuation of the discussion which sprang from an unrelated topic.. so according to genesis, who told the first lie?
god told eve that if she ate from the tree of knowledge she would die that very same day.
in response to that statement the devil told her she would not die.. eve ate from the tree and did not die.

One of Covid’s more surprising takeaways was just how many used the break to fade… or rather, just how many PIMOs there actually were…
…and I’ve lost count of how often I’ve heard XJWs theorize that if the Org dropped shunning, the resulting exodus would cripple them.
Maybe there’s more to those theories than we thought.Assuming the GB knows what its doing, I wonder what their change management plan looks like for the next decade.
Will they slowly chip away and remove shunning altogether?
Do they pander to the type of people they want as JW's and continue shunning, knowing its what makes them different and special, and knowing many JW's like the idea of 'keeping the congregation clean?"
Are they prepared to accept a certain level of lost membership as long as they have complete control over the ones left?
Growth or control?

Ive been following along and I have a question to anyone claiming the serpent lied.
Gen 2 mentions 2 trees - why hasnt anyone mentioned the 2nd tree?
9 The Lord God made all kinds of trees grow out of the ground—trees that were pleasing to the eye and good for food. In the middle of the garden were the tree of life and the tree of the knowledge of good and evil.
If there was open and free access to the "tree fo life", which granted immortality, as there was to the "tree of knowledge" - how was the serpent to know god would restrict access to it so that adam and eve couldnt live forever after they ate the fruit?
The serpent told adam and eve exactly what would occur- if they ate from the tree of knowledge - they would know good and bad. That happened and it was confirmed by god in Gen 3: 22.
The bible doesnt mention any of the "rules" surrounding the "tree of life".
It amazes me that 6000 years later we are arguing about it and people still base their lives on this incomplete, confusing fairytale.

What lie did the devil ever tell? None as far as I can see.
“You won’t die.” Was the big one.
I find your comment confusing, because if you are allowing for the narrative details of the Bible as a premise for the question in the first place, then I don’t see how it’s possible to deny that Adam and Eve actually died, and that the statement that they wouldn’t die was therefore a lie. Or what are you saying?
If you are not using the narrative as the premise of the question, then I don’t know what is the point of saying the devil has never told a lie. He’s never done anything if he doesn’t exist.Did the devil lie - according to the bible?
Gen 3:4,5:
“You will not certainly die,” the serpent said to the woman. 5 “For God knows that when you eat from it your eyes will be opened, and you will be like God, knowing good and evil.”
Gen 3:22:
And the Lord God said, “The man has now become like one of us, knowing good and evil. He must not be allowed to reach out his hand and take also from the tree of life and eat, and live forever.”
Did the devil know that God would prevent Adam and Eve from taking fruit from the tree of life and continue living? If he didnt, he didnt lie.

Watchtower August leak: details from reddit user
by ukpimo infrom reddit.. a summary of changes: .
we are all sinners, so we have to be reasonable how we punish sinners.
if elders and congregation do not quickly help someone come to be reinstated they would be imitating satan the devil, not jehovah (yes that actually is what is said in the tagalog version in translation!

It has become obvious that this organisation will bend over for almost any government that threatens to remove their free cash hand-outs. It is the only thing that seems to incentivise them to act on changes to Government requirements. JW's will fight any goverment all the way to the highest courts to avoid having to answer for matters like child sex abuse.
Yet, even the youngest jw child, old enough to talk is expected to stand up for their faith - with no expectation of reward - and every expectation of humiliation from their peers, on ridiculous matters like birthday parties.

They must also change the treatment of those who dissociate themselves from the JWs. It is inevitable
by LaFrancia infrom reddit ex jw, a user posted this material of a hypothetical new light on dissociated people......i'm posting it only for the record, nothing else is known.
it seems that the topic has been deleted either by the moderators or by the user himself.

Yeah, that’s not from any “secret” or “recalled” Watchtower article.
There are literally dozens of clues indicating this was not written by any JW.1 Corinthians 5:11-13 clearly states, "But now I write to you, do not associate with anyone who claims to be a brother or sister but is sexually immoral or greedy, an idolater or a slanderer, a drunkard or a swindler.
The NWT uses 'extortioner' and not 'swindler' here so maybe thats another clue it didnt come from HQ? Time will tell.

The August Study Watchtower: what is the big deal?
by ukpimo ini have been following a number of posts discussing the august watchtower study magazine.
i really don't believe this common idea being passed around that it's being timed for the annual meeting.
here's why.. the august watchtower will be available on servers not long before its public release.

An article discussing disassociation would seem relevant in the current legal climate facing the org.
During the arc, the testimony that Rod Spinks made regarding the difference between disassociation and disfellowshipping was a masterclass in misdirection and obfuscation. Sadly for Rod, he was called out for it

Im also a gen x'er. Growing up, we still had the news filtered for us by big media and only had the big tv stations and newspapers to go by. Today, we have multi-faceted opinions, in real-time, often by the actual people taking images on their phones. Like religion, It is harder for mainstream media to contrive a narrative that the majority will believe. There are less places to hide and information is readily available. In short, more and more people do not simply believe what they are presented by big media like we did in the past.
In relation to the Gaza conflict, any negative comments against Israel have often been viewed as anti-semitic, however, criticism of Israeli political policy is not the same as anti-semitism. There have been atrocities committed by both parties. This conflict started long before October 2023 and regardless of who you believe has the moral high ground, it makes the world a more dangerous place for all of us.
